AVM 'Johnnie' Johnson on patrol over D-Day beaches on 6th June 1944 in his Supermarine Spitfire IX. The artist worked closely with 'Johnnie' Johnson on this painting to capture his memories of that famous day and spent many afternoons at the Ace's home near Buxton.
