The major structural components are built enitrely of advanced carbon fibre epoxy composite material, which makes the Harrier II particularly strong and light. Twin variants II developed strategically for the USA and the UK. The AV-8B Harrier II entered service with USMC in January 1985 and the Harrier GR Mk5 entered service with the RAF in November 1988.
